Iconic, landmark, amazing! An old school Italian bakery making magic with bread. From their basic loaves to olive bread to lard bread, this place makes amazing eats. And that's just the savory side of things. They also offer a wide assortment of cookies and cakes and sweets. Honestly never had anything from here that wasnt amazing. Be prepared for a line and a wait on some mornings, because the secret is out and folks know where to find the good stuff.

In New York you look for a bakery and hundreds of cafes with pre-cooked sweet pastries come up.
Caputo Bakery is one of the few real bakeries, with several types of bread (ciapata, whole wheat, bars, ...).
All delicious!

Great pastries, friendly service and wonderful recommendations. There were lots of choices and as a first time visitor, it may be overwhelming. But there was a friendly lady ready and willing to help. Everything I bought was delicious and I will be coming back. Remember to bring cash!

What a wonderful neighborhood bakery! We went in and I asked the lovely, lively woman behind the counter what was a must-have. She said the chocolate walnut cookie. Done. What else? She tells us about their croissants and how they get their butter from France (I've lived in Languedoç before) and laminate their dough. Done. What else? She mentioned some bread (we joked the shape was an Italian pretzel) rosemary and sea salt fugasse. Real deal baker stuff. Done.
We paid cash (it's cash only!) and headed out with smiles and a bag of goodies.
We ate the fugasse as we walked and it was like a bagel and a pizza dough with just the right amount of rosemary, and flaky sea salt doing a lot of work here. Delicious.
Then the cookie. Man. This is the cookie I'll always judge all other cookies by. Perfect.
The croissant. The most crucial of all pastries. Delicate. Difficult. Tedious. But when done right, it's just worth it. These are done right. My sister and I agreed this would be worthy of eating along the canal St Martin in Paris.
Thanks, Caputo Bakery. You've earned a spot on my "gotta go" list for out of towners!

A Brooklyn institution for a reason. Nothing overpriced, mediocre here - just absolute dedication to freshness. Their bread is the best and the most affordable you’ll ever find. From the baguettes to the seeded loafs and cinnamon rolls, it’s everything you ever want in fluffy, fresh bread. Can’t wait to try everything in this shop. It’s the stuff of dreams.
5 stars!!!!

This cute little cash only bakery has a great assortment of cookies, pastries, and breads.
I came in recently because of an Instagram posting about this place and was surprised at how small this bakery was. I opted to get a couple of pounds of assorted cookies. Everything tasted fantastic, and you can tell they were freshly baked.
The bakery is clean, the staff is friendly and helpful and the prices are very reasonable.
I will stop by again the next time I am in the area to get more cookies and to try out their breads.

I can’t believe it took me so long to stop in and discover their amazing whole wheat sourdough for myself. I love it. It is chewy and delicious. This bakery is the best- from their friendly to their rainbow cookies.
